展览简单介绍

       我生在上海,长在广州,这是我第一次回到出生地--上海做展览,对我个人而言意义重大。
      这次展出的作品是我近两年的新作。自十一年前从广州美院油画系毕业起,我便开始了自由艺术家和职业摄影师的双重身份,也由于这种状态,使我与职业艺术家有所不同。同时身处艺术与商业,让我和各行各业的人更加贴近,与他们乘受同样的生存压力,需要同样地去不断奋斗。因此,我作品中表达的是对生活环境,对社会的关注和感受。
      我觉得我的图片作品的创作思路和我的绘画非常接近,我常说,我是把图片当画来画。
      在创作的语言和形式上,我运用了当前年轻一代流行的卡通动漫元素。我认为,艺术家对社会是非常敏感的,成功的作品都具有明显的时代特征。
     张穗扬的观念图片作品 邓箭今 2007-4-19 在张穗扬的观念图片作品里,政治、社会、流行文化以及时尚生活问题等都是他关注的焦点。如《毁坏者之都市狂想曲》、《超级机械战士降临游戏魔界》、《还是一样?》等作品中,他试图打破传统艺术审美的样式习惯,图片中运用大量的影像、记录、现场表演的媒介因素,使角色的转换得到有效的互叠互渗。从图片作品中,我们可以感受到他对当今网络和动漫时代所带来的一种信仰危机和心理上的骚动表达。在艺术处理上他摆脱刻意“肤浅”卡通的流行符号,加大了电影的取景中蒙太奇的戏剧化效果,从而使作品增添了一种流动性、跨时空所呈现出的荒诞、神秘、迷乱、鬼哭神嚎的末日景象。

     作为新媒体艺术中的图片形式它具有很多当代艺术的美学价值,在研究观念图片的实验和结合社会性的思考与批判的同时,还需要更长期自身对社会、文化、人文、生命的关注和责任感。为此,我更期待张穗扬在以后采用科技媒材和媒体艺术的结合方面为我们创造出更多的惊喜。

   当今社会是信息化,网络化,高度商业化的社会;充斥着电脑,游戏和卡通文化的社会。卡通,游戏,漫画里的人物是年青一代的偶象,这一切给了他们一个虚拟的空间去想象,去梦想。作为一个70年代人,我深深感受到这种文化在当今中国的大都市甚至世界范围的影响。艺术是社会和时代的反映,这在我的创作中是一个极为重要的因素。在卡通,游戏,漫画,网络,商业化和崇尚物质的时代,和由此而产生的当今社会的种种现象和问题,以及由这些所带给我个人的感受,都是我作品中想要表达的。卡通,游戏,漫画的元素在我的作品里,有时是主角,有时只是一个符号,借以表达出我所感,所想。有时是荒诞的,有时是调侃的,有时是幽默的,更多时候是严肃的。因为我相信,作为艺术家对社会和人是有某种使命的。

 

当今的时代是一个读图的时代,人们每天都会阅读大量的图片,这样,人们对图片的要求也越来越高,怪异,夸张的风格,强调刺激的视觉效果会更容易吸引观众的注意力。但怪异,夸张的风格,强调刺激的视觉效果都是为主题服务的,如果只是单纯的视觉刺激,没有对社会责任感,对时代,对人性的表达,艺术就没有价值,那只不过是插图而已,或许,这就是美术与艺术的差别。

 

      商业广告对人们消费,生活,情感的导向作用极强,是生活中最重要的组成部份之一。通过它,我们似乎才懂得什么是时尚,什么是流行,什么值得买,什么才是成功,我们该住什么样的房子,怎样才是高标准的生活,什么是好,什么是坏!久而久之,商业广告所倡导的东西成为我们的价值观和标准,我们以为我们内心也是这样想,可真是如此吗?我经常问自己,属于我的价值观和标准是什么?可答案却不是轻松就能找得到。或需许我们只是社会发展的滚滚车轮的一颗锣丝而已。更想说的是,在当今社会,个人本能的需要和个性的严重缺失。

 

      在“它们装饰了我的身体!什么装饰了我的心?”系列作品中,我想表达的正是这样一个主题,每个人似乎每时每刻都被广告所控制着,我们身上穿的,各种牌子各种款式的衣服,内衣,首饰;我们用哪种牙膏,喝哪种啤酒,吃哪种快餐,开什么牌子的汽车,甚至用的安全套和避孕药;我们过哪种生活,交怎样的异性朋友,玩什么才时尚,患了病该吃哪个牌子的药,过年拿什么送礼才有面子……所有所有,都从广告上来,被广告所引导,说得更直接是被广告所主宰!它操控着我们所作的每一个选择。人在这样的笼子里生活,很多时候我们感觉被束缚,被压抑,我们挣扎,我们吼叫,但总是无能为力。


     在“终于有机会插死你”系列作品中,我想表达的是我对社会发生的事,老百姓所关心的一些问题的关注。对很多社会现象,我们切齿痛狠,在大多时候,我们只能摇头,忍气吞声。在这组作品中,我把大家平时想干又无法实现的事表达出来!至少,在这个虚拟空间里,让我们做平时想做又不敢做又或是不能做的事!……

Introduction

 

Born in Shanghai, bred in Guangzhou, this is the first time I came back to my birth place to hold an exhibition. It was a very significant experience in my life.
The works on show are those that I created over the past 2 years. I have been working as a freelance artist and professional photographer for eleven years since I graduated from the oil painting department of the Guangzhou Institute of Fine Arts. This dual focus makes me different from other professional artists because I’m not only in the arts area but also in the commercial zone. I feel the same pressures of life as they do, I also need to struggle. Therefore, my works show my impressions towards life and society.
I think my ideas for photography and painting are very similar. I take a photo shoot as if I am painting a picture. Using cartoons is my preferred style of expression. Cartoons are one of the most popular tools of the new generation. Personally, I think that an artist should be very sensitive to the surroundings, and a successful work should show the character of the time period.

From Zhang SuiYang’s works, we can see that the politic, society, pop and fashion is what he focus on. such as in those works--- , , …he tempted to break the traditional appreciation of beauty,instead, lots of film making factors were used in his works. Montage for example, thus made the different characters fit together, made the general appearance of the picture more integral, more fixable . From his works, we can feel not only the anxiety that the internet and cartoon brought to us, but also the mystery, absurdity and trepidation like the end of the world. As the photographs of new medium arts, it is quite a value. We should not just to focus on our work, but we need to be more responsible to ourselves, to the society problem, and care more about our life as well as the surroundings like Zhang SuiYang do. Therefore,I’m expecting more and more surprising work would be created by Zhang SuiYang.


Expression of my creation – Sui Yang Zhang


This is the age of high technology filled with computers, games and cartoons. The characters in the cartoon films, games and caricature books are the idols of the new generation. They provide a virtual space to imagine. As a man in the new age, I can feel the deep effects on China and the world. Art is the reflection of times and society, this is an essential element of my creation. The phenomena and problems that the new age has created have impacted me in various ways, and this is what I want to show through my works. The element of the cartoon, game and caricature is a major focus in my works. Sometimes it is the leading role, but sometimes it is just a denotation to express how I feel and what I think. Sometimes it can be absurd, ridiculous or humorous, but most of the time it’s serious. Because I believe that being an artist should have a kind of mission in the world.
This is the age of images; we view a great number of pictures everyday, therefore, people’s requirements for the quality of pictures is getting stricter. The strange, exaggerated and exciting vision would easily attract attentions. However, the images cannot just serve the theme idea of the artist. If it is created solely for visual impact with no responsibility towards society, to life, then this kind of arts will be considered of worthless. It is merely an image. This is the difference between fine arts and art.
Commercial advertisement have a drastic effect upon consumer consumption, life, and emotion. It is one of the essential part of life. It seems our perceptions of what is fashionable, what is popular, what is worthy, what success is, what a high quality lifestyle is, what is good, what is bad or what kinds of house we should buy are defined by reading commercial advertisements. As time passes, what commercial advertisement portray has become the standard of value. These thoughts are our thoughts. But is that true? I often question my values. The answer is not easy to find. Maybe we hold no importance in society. What I really want to say is that independent thought and creative thinking are now seriously lacking.
I want to express something like this series of work ---“it decorates our body! But what decorate our heart?” I feel like we are being controlled by advertisements at ever moment. They controls all the choices we make. It seems like we are living in the cage, we feel enslaved, stressed and anxious, we try to struggle, we scream, but we are helpless.
In the series ---“finally get a chance to kill you”, I want to show my concern to the situations which happen in the surroundings. To most of the social phenomena, I feel anger, but most of the time I can just swallow the insult, because there is nothing I can do about it. So through my works, I want to express something that I want to do but can not do in reality! Fortunately this virtual space offer us a place to do things which we want to do but can not do in real life!
